Come and join us as we explore composition in photography.

Composition is one of the most critical element in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image, frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty You will find formal rules, opinion, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.

Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.

This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.

My interest in photography goes back many years. I didn’t really know what I was doing until I became friends with a pro who worked for the local newspaper (Baton Rouge Morning Advocate) I was flying a medical helicopter at the time and he would come ride with us when he didn’t have anything else to do. We responded to many bad automobile accidents, house fires, train wrecks and horrific industrial incidents all up and down the Mississippi River so he was able to get some great shots that were often published in the newspaper the next morning. That was when I started using Nikons, mainly because that’s what he used. This was before digital photography so, at night after work, we would go to the newspaper in downtown Baton Rouge and he taught me how to develop the film. On my days off he would get me a press pass and I would go with him to LSU baseball and basketball games and New Orleans Saints games, where I was able pretend that I was a pro too.

I have been doing digital photography since it became available about twenty-five years ago. Although there have been and continue to be many advancements in cameras and lenses, the basic principles remain the same. The challenge I have found is in keeping up with the new technology and applying the many additional capabilities to produce higher quality images than were previously possible. I think there is an analogy between photography and golf, in that perfection is indeed elusive. Both require continuing education and practice. My many years as a flight instructor have required me to learn how to teach things to people in a manner that is effective and enjoyable. I find it very rewarding to be able to use my experience to help others advance their knowledge and skill in photography.

I'm a 20-year-old college student from New Orleans, Louisiana, with a passion for nature photography, hiking, and documenting scenic landscapes. I first got into photography around age 13, and over the years, I've enjoyed exploring outdoor spaces and learning how to capture the beauty of natural environments.

I'm excited to host relaxed, social photography walks where beginners can learn, ask questions, and get more comfortable using their cameras while connecting with others.

Jeremiah Funck is available for private bookings

Available most Mondays and Tuesdays 2pm until 6pm.

Visiting my freshman son at LSU gave me some free time to wander around campus, and of course I couldn?t leave without stopping by to see the famous Mike the Tiger. I was incredibly lucky to catch him out and about in the late afternoon, and this time I had my camera with me.This was actually my second time seeing him?the first was during orientation, when I didn?t bring my camera and was so disappointed that I couldn?t capture any good photos. But on this visit, everything worked out perfectl

I woke up before the alarm, stirred by the quiet pull of the Gulf just across the street. My wife was still sleeping soundly?it was my birthday weekend after all, and we?d come to Longbeach, Mississippi, to relax. But I couldn't resist the lure of the sunrise. I dressed in silence, slung my camera gear over my shoulder, grabbed a quick cup of coffee from the lobby, and stepped out into the brisk March morning. The wind off the Gulf was sharper than I?d expected, ruffling my hair and making me
