Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 21 December
Downtown Lafayette - 10am - 2 Hours
Lafayette Photography Group
Mallory Stanford
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

I booked a cabin in the woods of Murfreesboro, Arkansas on the bank of the Little Missouri River almost 2 years ago......just so we could be in the path of totality. Me and my wife, all three kids, one son-in-law, as well as my brother-in-law and his wife, all took the trip there....just to witness this amazing event.....and we were not disappointed! It was truly indescribable!

I went to the lake hoping to see the migration of the white pelicans. From my standpoint, there were very few. However, there were other worthy birds swimming or flying by. I set my eye on this egret as he flew across the water toward where I was standing. I tried my best to catch it in flight. I knew I would lose sight of it because of the tree branches. Not one to miss an opportunity, I kept clicking after I noticed it above me and hearing rustling of the leaves. It wasn't until I got h

The sun rises directly between the east and west spans of Interstate 10 here two days out of the year....once on it's way north as the days are getting longer, and again as the sun moves south as the days get shorter. I try very hard to be in this spot for both days.....hoping for a colorful sunrise as the sun peeks above the horizon!
